What To Put On A Dresser For A Beautiful Vignette
One of the best ways to style your dresser is to do it with accessories that complement the way you live. Let’s start with what you have on your dresser right now. First, get rid of any clutter that’s currently there to start with a clean slate will help you see the space you’re working with. For example, if this is the best place to keep your jewelry and perfume, then sitting them on a tray or using a jewelry stand will keep them organized and also be a decorative element. On the other hand, if you actually use your dresser as a TV stand, then you might only have room for a few candles on either end of your TV.
Now that you’ve considered function, make sure that what you put on your dresser actually looks good. That sounds obvious, right? So, let me help you decorate the perfect dresser, one that’s both functional and gorgeous. Starting with a few different items that you’ll both want and need.
Some great dresser essentials to consider include:
- lamp
- candle
- clock
- plant
- flowers (faux or real)
- tray
- storage box
- storage basket
- stack of books
- picture frames
- mirror
- artwork

Even though the bed is the actual focal point of the room, the artwork or TV that sits on top of it or hangs on the wall behind the dresser is the focal point of the dresser. That focal point will drive how you decorate and what you can use to style your dresser.
First, start by creating a foundation. There are many options to can use to create a foundation for your dresser. Again, start with what’s helpful and functional for you. You might start with a tray that you can sit all of your perfume on. Grouping items together makes them look more intentional. Doing this will have your dresser décor look intentional as opposed to just haphazardly throwing them together. Not using a foundational element just makes your dresser look more cluttered. Stacked books and X are other good options for creating a foundation on a dresser.
Next, add some height to your dresser. Adding one or two lamps is a great way to quickly add height to your dresser. Make sure if you add just one lamp, that you balance the other side of your dresser with other options that have height. A plant or a stack of books with a shorter item on top will do just fine. If you have a tallboy dresser, chest, or a tall dresser, you’ll decorate a bit differently. In this case, since your dresser is already tall, you won’t need to add too much height. Otherwise, it just throws the entire room off. But I want you to know that you can still decorate your tall dresser with some of the same accessories like a lamp or stack of books. You’d just make a few small adjustments. Like using a shorter lamp and a shorter stack of books.
The next thing you want to do to decorate your dresser is to create some visual interest. I like to add pops of color to my dresser. My master bedroom dresser is a nice, deep, chocolate brown. So, using lighter colors help to brighten up that furniture so my entire room doesn’t dark. On the other hand, my daughter’s dresser is white so it can handle darker colors. Like the deep textured gray decorative storage box add both color, texture and height. This gives the dresser lot of visual interest, while also hiding a lot of knick knacks and trinkets.
Last, but not least, add some depth to your décor. Depth can take the visual interest up a notch. And because having everything in one straight line is one great way to have some boring décor. So, starting with the tallest item, taper down to the shorter items forming an invisible triangle. Then stagger your items so that everything isn’t in a row.
